Consider this – A designer surfing from sites to sites, found a nice piece of design and particularly like the font design but no idea what’s the font name. So he decided to fired up few free fonts sites (free fonts, 1001freefonts, dafont, etc) and desperately trying to find a match. This designer (OK, that’s me) could be searching endlessly for hours, god knows how many fonts are they in the archives. If you are lucky, they could fall under category B else you may end up 4 hours later knowing that its a font under category X.
Whathefont saves your time from searching the font name. They scan the image and tells you list of possible font names. So I did a little experiment to test its efficiency. I came up with a image with font Eras Bold ITC (left) and upload to Whathefont to see it can tell the font name.

You might need to help fill up some alphabets ifsystem doesn’t understand them. Press search to continue.

Here’s the result I got, an Eras ITC. Accurate. The next step will be hunting this font down in Google :)
