Thanks for the link =]
To anyone rubbing their CD: NEVER, and I mean never, rub like is done in this video, nor should you rub in rings around the whole disc. Instead, you should rub in “spokes” out from the center, like on a bicycle wheel, otherwise you risk scratching the CD further.

I’m not sure that I’ll go putting tp on my scratched dvds! and, none of those cheap gimmicky machines are any good, and can actually cause more damage… I have found a free report at http://www.discstation.com.au on how to best repair scratched cds, and now I use their disc go pod machine in my video store, as I have to get around 50 discs per day fixed, what a pain, but the discs are worth saving!

Don’t use toothpaste, it’s way too abrasive!
Use car polish (depending on the depths of the scratches work you way from a medium to a light polish if required…). Use a microfiber applicator and apply in random circular motion (I know that when wiping a cd it’s better to go from the center to the edge, this is to prevent making long scratches in the same line as data is read). I trying my my DA polisher but it was too much trouble to hold the dvd in place. After the polish, wipe out use a microfiber towel. I didn’t go as far as to use a sealant (the dvd worked so I stopped there and made a copy) but you could basically obtain a clean finish like you would on the clear coat of a car…! Anyway, hope this helps someone!

My advice is NOT to repair your scratched DVDs/CDs by hand or using the cheap machines. You will end up scratching it more or worst yet heating your disc and warping the data foil. I DO recommend that you use a professional service that can fix your DVDs/CDs for less than $1.00 USD. Here’s the service I use: http://www.wefixdvds.com
