Here’s a rather quick way to duplicate one Firefox tab to another without the need to open new tab, retype the url and wait for the webpage to load. All you need to do is hold Control (Windows) key, drag the current tab to a new place (you’ll see a + sign when you drag), release it and brand new tab is created with the exact same website. Little nice find by Ashish of Technospot.
This however, will only work in Windows. Holding Command key in Mac does not have any effect. If you don’t understand how this works, watch a video over at technospot.net.

In Firefox for Mac, we can use keystrokes combo Command-L + Option-Return. The page will be duplicated :-)

Surely it’s a very useful tricks but shouldn’t the shortcut be Alt instead of Ctl like in many software to dupplicate?

Thanks for the tip. I didn’t know about this. I just press CTRL + T to open a new tab (but it doesn’t open the same site in the new tab). And I think that might be even faster than holding and dragging.

I don’t think this is a new find. LifeHacker has already published this article around 20 days back. Here’s a link: http://lifehacker.com/398131/ctrl%252Bdrag-a-tab-to-copy-it-and-its-history

Thank you for this tip. Is there any keyboard short keys for this too?
Replyvalp July 27th, 2008
If you press CTRL+T then the new tab will open with your current site URL typed on top. Press ENTER to load this page directly.

Hi,
I read you article/request for “Keyboard shortcut instead of mouse dragging”. Here’s what I’ve found after my first try:
Hold ‘Ctrl’+'Shift’ and then press ‘t’. This will duplicate a tab with it’s URL. BUT :-( It always opens the URL of the first tab.
Enjoy…
