I just ran tests and when Google Talk is not running my CPU is around 10% at idle with normal background system idle processes running. Simply starting Google Talk, not actually using it, causes the well known skyrocket to 100% CPU usage which freezes use of the computer (and I've been dealing with that cause at least it's temporary), but once that's over it stays at about 50% CPU usage for no apparent reason other than Google Talk is open. If I shut Google Talk, it goes back to 10% so that is definitely the problem. Not sure why everyone says this app is "lightweight" and "easy on resources". It's simply not true.
