Feedburner: Why FAN not showing approved ads?

Here’s a very common problem many Feedburner users faced – FAN ads are not showing in the feed or website. I encountered such problem last week and after spending few hours trying to adjust and fix it then I realized there is nothing wrong with my configurations. I’ve read throught some forums and manage to find the answers to my FAN ads.

Checklist (FAN)

Perform the following checklist first, you could have missed out some of these settings.

  1. Make sure you clicked the Approve button and the message next to it says “Campaign is currently running in your feed
  2. Go Configure Ads, check the frequency of ads in items
  3. Click the Save button, make sure the service is active

That’s about it. The ad should be running. If your ads are still not appearing, here are the possibilities

Possibilities why FAN not appearing

  • Your feed is cached
  • You are new to FAN. Data are currently being collected at the moment
  • The ads are actually running, but on GEO location basis (Happened to some of my ads). Click “View performance stats for this campaign” from time to time to check the impressions.

In my case (which I think is a very common one too), few of the ads are GEO location based. That is why I don’t see them up on my feeds.

I guess they fail to deliver 100% traffic, that is why some ads don’t appear. They must be having some sort of quota

    Hi all,

Geo targeting ads is definitely part of why you won’t see ads all of the time. The other side of the equation is that we’re not selling 100% of your available inventory. Since we work on a CPM model, or cost per 1,000 impressions, rather than a CPC model we are subject to the cyclical nature of CPM ad sales. Q1, which we’re in right now, is traditionally the slowest for CPM ad sales with Q4 being the highest sales month. I hope this helps explain things and if anyone has any other questions please feel free to shoot me a note.

    Cheers,
    Eric Olson
