Wordpress by default enable us to make a protected page where condition is – If you have the password you can view. Here’s a protected page plugin template by redwing studio; condition is – If you are member of this blog, you can view.
I personally don’t see the need to protect a page from readers unless we want to give registered readers some priorities or a quick first view of something. Anyway here is the link to the download and installation of the Protected page (user only) Wordpress Plugin.

Hong Kiat,
Thanks for letting people know about our code. Just wanted to clarify though. It isn’t a plugin per se, it’s more of a template page that you can use to protect a particular page. Maybe one of these days I’ll have time and convert it into a plugin. :)
Regards,

Links to the page no longer work, any other locations to find this code?

Hi Accounting Teacher,
If you want to protect only certain pages you can just use the built in password protected feature of wordpress, available from the page editor.
To make the pages look nicer, we made a plugin called “better-protected-pages” which is available from http://www.wordpress.org/extend and it even adds a re-lock button which allows you to put a page back under protection when you have finished using it. (By default, wordpress leaves a page unlocked when you have read it, EVEN if you log out… but our plugin gets around this very nicely!)
Hope this helps.
