If you are kicking back this weekend in front of your computer and got nothing interesting sites to surf, check out this site – Wordle.net. Wordle is a site that generates word clouds (similar to the tag clouds used in blogs) off any text, RSS feed, del.icio.us tag or URL you provide. The image above is an example of what I’ve got after keying the URL http://www.hongkiat.com

Wordle allows you to further customize the font, layout and color. You can even save it to a public gallery.

Turn it into a wallpaper

Generating just a text cloud sound boring, so I’ve decided to turn it into a wallpaper. Here’s how you do it, assuming you had your text cloud created.

1. Hit the Print button, save it as PDF.

   

2. Open up the PDF in Photoshop or any other similar application (make sure the resolution is 300)
3. Crop it to the the match your desktop screen size.

And there you go, a text cloud wallpaper made from the text of your site.

I don’t think this serve any real purpose but it’s fun to see the expression of your friends when they wonder why all websites on your Safari browsers are flipped upside down or displayed in other angles.

Now your YouTube video can be more interactive. These guys have added Video annotations, commentary feature sort of, into YouTube videos. As an uploader, you can create stories, descriptions or just simple dialog at any scene of the video. The video above is an interactive video with annotations.

Too add annotations to your existing videos, simply go to Account -> My Video and click on the ‘Edit Annotations‘ on the right. Video owner can add unlimited numbers of annotations, that gives you an idea how fun your video can be.

So what if you are annoyed by these annotations that keeps on popping up, or you wanted to add some on your videos but fears viewers might get irritated? You can switch the video annotations off by clicking on the last button on the menu.

Say you are traveling, your iPod’s battery run out and you forgot to bring the charger nor cable. It’s not really a problem if you happens to have an onion, electrolytes solutions, an orange or even a durian. I know, what’s the odds that you’ll be carrying these things around, but still it’s good to know some crazy alternative ways you can charge your iPods. It’s weird, but it works. Videos after jump.

It’s not any ASCII Art, instead it’s formed with the use of CSS padding, margins, colors with the mixture of different characters. This Homer Simpson CSS-image is viewable cross-browser, in Internet Explorer 5.5, 6, 7, Opera 7, Firefox 2 and Safari 3.

Here’s a real good site to put your typing skills to a test. How Typeracer works is, you are represented as a car, competing against other cars (other users) and how fast you guys can reach the finishing point depends on how fast you can type. You’ll need to finish up the provided sentence with totally no mistake at all.

If you are not interested in competing against other players, you can brush up your typing skills by practicing alone. The best typer so far on the hall of fame is capable of typing 220 words per minutes, now that’s really fast.

It has been quite a long while since the announcement of Starcraft II, but there’s still no sign when this game will be officially released. Blizzard on the other side, has been totally killing the fans by releasing trailers and videos bit by bit. These folks has released videos and gameplays on both Terran and Protoss tribe but kept Zerg’s information rather secretive for quite a long while. For the Zerg fans, Blizzard has recently released the ‘Zerg Reveal Trailer‘, something to quench your thirst of curiosity before official release of Starcraft II.

This 11 inch tall robot will help you switch to your favorite program, turn on/off the TV or basically any action you command it to do with the TV. But before it can do it, you kinda need to program it. ApriPoko Robot testing product in Toshiba research lab, it’s availability is yet to be announced.
